Four Steps. No Guesswork.

A career track is a what if version of your career. Build one, see what it could mean for your retirement, then build another and compare. Everything stays on your phone.

1
Build a Track

Enter your branch, rank progression, years of service, and TSP contributions. Each track is one possible path your career could take.

2
See Your Projection

The app estimates your pay over time, your TSP balance, and your pension, using the 2026 DFAS basic pay tables and the numbers you entered.

3
Compare Tracks

Put two tracks next to each other and see the difference in plain numbers and a retirement chart. Comparing is free.

4
Learn as You Go

New to all of this? Investing 101 explains the pension, the TSP, and the terms you are looking at, in plain English.

When you first open the app it asks whether you are experienced with military retirement or new and learning. If you are new, it walks you into Investing 101 first so the numbers make sense before you start.

// 02 · Features
Plan It. Then See It.

Rank & Retire is a planning and education tool, not financial advice. It turns the numbers you already have into a clear picture you can actually read.

// 01
Career Tracks

Build separate what if versions of your career. Stay in for 20 years, get out early, change your contributions. Each one is its own track.

// 02
Dashboard

An at a glance view of each track, including a lifetime income estimate, so you can see where a path is heading without digging.

// 03
Track Builder

Set your branch, rank timeline, years of service, and TSP contributions. Adjust any input and watch the projection update.

// 04
Compare (Free)

View two tracks side by side with a retirement chart. Comparing is part of the free tier, not a paid feature.

// 05
Investing 101

A beginner friendly section that explains the pension, the TSP, the BRS match, and the terms behind your projection.

// 06
Today's vs Future Dollars

Projections default to today's (2026) dollars, what the money is worth now. One switch shows everything in future, inflation grown dollars.

// 07
Private by Design

Everything is stored on your device. No account, no login, no cloud sync, and no analytics in the current version.

// 08
Built on 2026 DFAS Pay

Projections use the 2026 DFAS basic pay tables and the inputs you provide. Penalty free TSP access is modeled at age 60.

High-3

The older pension. Your pension is based on the average of your highest 36 months of basic pay (your high-3 pay), multiplied by your years of service.

// Modern
BRS

The Blended Retirement System. A smaller pension plus a government TSP match of up to 5%. This is the default for members who joined in 2018 or later.

Start From Zero.

You do not need a finance background to use this app. Investing 101 explains the pieces in plain language, the same way the in app lessons do. Here is what it covers.

// 01
Compound Growth

The core idea behind investing. Your money earns money, and that grows on itself over time. This is why starting early matters more than almost anything else.

// 02
Your Two Buckets

Military retirement has two main parts: the pension (a monthly check for life after 20 years) and the TSP (Thrift Savings Plan, your own investment account).

// 03
High-3 vs BRS

The two retirement systems, the pension multiplier, and what high-3 pay means (the average of your highest 36 months of basic pay).

// 04
The TSP Match

Under BRS the government matches your TSP contributions up to 5%. That is free money. We also cover vesting and continuation pay.

// 05
The TSP Funds

The G, F, C, S, I, and L funds, and what conservative, moderate, and aggressive really mean when you pick how your money is invested.

// 06
Service Milestones

Your DD-214, years of service, and the 20 year cliff. You generally need 20 years of service to earn the pension.

// 07
Today's vs Future Dollars

Why a dollar today is not the same as a dollar in 20 years, and how to read projections in today's money or future money.

// 08
It Is an Estimate

Every number is a projection based on what you entered, not a promise. For real decisions, talk to your base financial readiness office or a certified professional.

Straight Answers.

The questions service members ask most, answered plainly.

What do I get for free? +
Up to 2 career tracks, the full calculation engine, the Compare feature, Investing 101, and the today's versus future dollars switch. The free tier shows banner ads on the Dashboard and Track Builder screens.
What does the $2 unlock do? +
It removes all ads and unlocks unlimited career tracks, so you can build a third track and beyond. That is the whole difference.
Is it really one time? +
Yes. It is a single $2 in app purchase billed by Apple. There is no subscription and nothing auto renews. You pay once and keep it forever, including all future updates.
Do I have to pay to compare tracks? +
No. Compare is part of the free tier. Since free includes 2 tracks, you can compare two tracks side by side without paying anything.
I got a new phone. Do I pay again? +
No. Sign in with the same Apple ID and restore your purchase. The unlock carries over to your new device.
Is this financial advice? +
No. Rank & Retire is a planning and education tool. Every figure is an estimate based on the inputs you provide, not a guarantee or advice. For real decisions, talk to your base financial readiness office or a certified professional.
Is my data private? +
Yes. Everything you enter stays on your device. There is no account, no login, no cloud sync, and no analytics in the current version. The free tier ads are served through Apple's App Store ad network, which may collect device level information under Apple's policies.
How are the numbers calculated? +
Projections use the 2026 DFAS basic pay tables and the inputs you provide. By default everything is shown in today's (2026) dollars, with a switch for future, inflation grown dollars. Penalty free TSP access is modeled at age 60. The pension generally requires 20 years of service.
Which devices does it run on? +
iOS only, from the Apple App Store. This is version 2.0.0.
Who is it for? +
Active duty service members across all six branches: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard.
// 07 · About
For Service Members, By One.

Rank & Retire is built and supported by a single active duty service member. It started as a simple question that is hard to answer well: what would my career actually be worth if I made a different choice?

Most tools give you a snapshot of today. This one lets you build full what if versions of your career and see your projected pay, TSP, and pension for each, then compare them in plain numbers. It is meant to make a confusing topic feel clear, especially for someone brand new to it.

It is a planning and education tool, not financial advice. For real money decisions, your base financial readiness office and certified professionals are the right call. The goal here is simply to help you walk in understanding the numbers.
